You are much closer to freedom than you think.
Everyone of us has a “number”.
The number that represents our freedom.
How high or how low that number is depends on how lean you’re willing to live.
What is this “number”?
I’m talking about the minimum cost footprint you need every month to survive (your minimum viable cost).
I’m talking about the sum-total of things like your rent + food + utilities and other necessities.
I’m talking about the amount of cash burn you experience every single month regardless of whether you choose to spend anything or not.
It’s literally the cost of living.
So long as you’re alive you have a number.
Accountants call these fixed costs.
I call this number your “gap”.
How big is your “gap”?
When you quantify it like this you will be surprised.
Of course there are several factors to consider.
It depends on the number of dependents you have and the target lifestyle you wish to sustain (though if you really value your freedom you will try and keep this number as low as possible at the start).
Some people can get by with $2,000 per month.
Some may need $3,000 per month to live.
If you have a family and a mortgage you may need $4,000 to stay afloat.
The point is when you quantify it like that, you put things into perspective.
Because now you know the only thing that’s stopping you from freedom is not some vague or fuzzy spectre.
It’s not the government.
It’s not the economy.
It’s not your friends or parents.
It’s not some conspiracy.
It’s simply $2,000 per month.
Now that’s specific. That’s measurable.
It’s quantifiable. It’s precise.
You don’t need millions of dollars in cash or assets.
You only need a means of generating $2,000 per month from means other than your unfulfilling 9-6 job which ties you down to a specific place and time.
Yes if you have an unfulfilling job it’s a time and freedom vampire which sucks all your time and keeps you under the yoke of Time-Money-Servitude.
Breaking it down…
Let’s further break down that $2,000 dollars I mentioned above.
If you have a skill, for example if you can do people’s taxes. If you can go out on your own or do it on the side, and if you can charge $200 per person whom you help, that equates to only 10 customers per month.
That’s all you need. If you work fast you can finish the work in a week. That leaves you 3 more weeks of the month where you don’t have to worry about making ends meet. You’ve just bought back 3 weeks of your life for that month.
This applies to just about any product or service you can think of.
When you break it down it often comes down to a very small number.
You are literally only 10-30 customers away from freedom…
Find your 30 customers.
Bridge your gap.
You are much closer to freedom than you think.
Question time
Though the ultimate goal of freedom from work seems like an unreachable and lofty goal, if you break down the problem into smaller sized chunks, it starts to become more manageable.
So what’s your number?
What will it take to bridge your gap?
Would love to hear from you so please leave a message in the comments.
Until next time.
Godspeed,
